As part of its overall commitment to being a socially responsible corporate citizen, Minefinders is committed to supporting and working with the local communities in which it operates. To ensure that there is a culture of continuous and open communications with the local community Minefinders has created the position of Superintendent for Community Development.
During the course of the development of the Dolores Mine, improvements have been made to the local infrastructure for the community surrounding the Dolores Mine in the form of modern housing, roads, drainage, electricity, running water, a school, a church and a medical clinic which is operated by Chihuahua state’s Ministry of Health.
Education is also a key part of the community policy. Partnerships have been forged with government and local communities to develop projects and programs that will create opportunities for ongoing employment during mine operation and after mine closure. In addition to providing various trade courses for the local community, the Company also supports the wider community through its donations to state initiatives such as ‘Generation 10’ and to the School of Mines and Geology at the University of Chihuahua.
